all about fun four star review

Stepping into the Shrek Far Far Away Cafe at Manchester Primark feels like being transported straight into Shrek’s swamp, with quirky "Beware of the Ogre" signs and a cosy, enchanted atmosphere. My husband Lawrence and I visited on Tuesday, September 10th, curious to see what an ogre-themed dining experience would bring.

The menu is a playful twist on café staples with a Shrek-inspired flair. Lawrence opted for the "Ooh, Mexican Food!" tacos, Donkey’s supposed favourite, featuring BBQ pulled jackfruit or spicy pulled beef, chipotle sauce, and pink pickled onions. He found it flavourful and well-spiced. I chose the "Slab O’ Ham and Cheese" toastie, a simple yet satisfying choice, served with hand-cooked crisps – perfect for a quick, comforting bite.

For drinks, Lawrence couldn’t resist the "Not The Gum Drop Buttons" milkshake, a decadent blend of butterscotch and gingerbread, topped with whipped cream, gummy worms, gingerbread men, and a drizzle of toffee sauce. He found it indulgent and fun, with just the right balance of sweetness. I went for the "Far Far Away" potion – a strawberry and lime-infused lemonade, topped with candy floss. It was refreshing, whimsical, and added a bit of magic to my drink with its presentation.

Though we were too full to try the tempting waffles with ice-cream, we noted they looked fantastic and well-presented. We finished with a slice of cake from the café’s selection, which was delicious and rounded off our experience nicely. The café also offers a kids' lunchbox deal for £4.95, including a roll, snack, fruit, and a drink – a perfect choice for families.

With its themed menu, playful nods to the Shrek movies, and cosy vibe, the Shrek Far Far Away Café is a great spot for a quick bite or a sweet treat – and we’ll definitely be back with the kids next time to try more ogre-themed delights!

The Shrek Far Far Away Café will be open in the Manchester Market Street Primark until November, so there’s still time to experience this enchanting spot before it closes.
