Following the resounding success of Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None, another Agatha Christie classic is about to set sail on a nationwide tour. Death on the Nile, adapted for the stage by Ken Ludwig, will have its European premiere in a brand-new production directed by Lucy Bailey (Witness for the Prosecution). The tour will open at The Lowry in Salford on 26 September 2025, before heading across the UK & Ireland through 2026.
A Classic Mystery Afloat
Set against the sultry backdrop of Egypt, Death on the Nile is one of Christie’s most intense and passion-fuelled thrillers. When a couple’s dream honeymoon is shattered by a shocking murder aboard a luxury cruise, it’s up to the world’s most famous detective, Hercule Poirot, to unravel a tangled web of secrets, jealousy, and revenge. Trapped on the river with a cast of potential suspects, Poirot must use his legendary skills of deduction before the killer strikes again.
A Winning Team Reunites
This production sees Lucy Bailey return to Agatha Christie's world, having previously directed Witness for the Prosecution and Murder on the Orient Express. Speaking about the upcoming production, Bailey shared her excitement:
“I’m delighted to be following Murder on The Orient Express with another of Poirot’s most famous cases. It takes place in the midsummer heat of Egypt and is one of Agatha Christie’s most passion-driven thrillers. A group of holidaymakers, attracted by the ancient beauty of the Nile, find themselves in a living nightmare of jealousy and revenge. Trapped on board a pleasure steamer and adrift on the Nile, it’s a voyage into the heart of darkness.”
James Prichard, CEO of Agatha Christie Limited and great-grandson of the legendary author, also expressed enthusiasm for this new adaptation:
“With a hugely successful tour of Murder on the Orient Express still delighting UK audiences, we are thrilled to be partnering once again with Lucy Bailey, Ken Ludwig, and the team at Fiery Angel to bring another of my great-grandmother’s most celebrated stories to UK stages.”
