The highly anticipated revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita has found its leading lady, and it’s none other than Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler. Best known for her breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and her upcoming turn as Disney’s Snow White, Zegler will make her West End debut as Eva Perón in Jamie Lloyd’s bold new staging of the beloved musical. Performances are set to run from 14 June to 6 September 2025, with an official opening night on 27 June at the London Palladium.
A Dream Casting for an Iconic Role
Zegler, who made her Broadway debut last year in Romeo and Juliet opposite Heartstopper star Kit Connor, has expressed her deep personal connection to Evita.
“Evita has been such an important musical to me since I was a little girl, when my dad and I would sing ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ together on my back patio,” Zegler shared. “The opportunity to bring Jamie Lloyd’s singular, visionary ideas to life onstage is an honour unlike any other. The stage has always felt like home to me, and I can’t wait to make my West End debut in such great company.”

Jamie Lloyd’s Vision for Evita
Lloyd, known for his innovative reimaginings of classic works such as Sunset Boulevard and Much Ado About Nothing, previously directed an award-winning outdoor production of Evita at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019. This new staging has been described as “an evolution” of that production, promising a fresh and contemporary take on the story of Argentina’s First Lady.
“I am so excited to be collaborating with the brilliant Rachel Zegler on Evita,” Lloyd said. “She is a phenomenal talent, and I am delighted she will be making her West End debut as the iconic Eva Perón.”
A Story of Power, Passion, and Politics
Evita follows the rise of Eva Perón from humble beginnings to becoming one of Argentina’s most powerful and beloved political figures. Featuring timeless songs like “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” and “Buenos Aires,” the musical remains one of the most celebrated in theatre history.
With Zegler’s impressive vocal range and dramatic depth, audiences can expect a compelling and dynamic portrayal of this complex historical figure.
