QUENTIN BLAKE AND ME ARTWORK

This summer, one of Britain’s most beloved writers and illustrators, Quentin Blake, will be celebrated in a major new exhibition at Lowry, Salford. Opening on Saturday, 19th July 2025, Quentin Blake and Me promises to be an immersive, fun-filled experience for the whole family, and it’s completely free to visit.

Curated in collaboration with Quentin Blake and his studio, this exhibition will showcase a wide range of Blake's instantly recognisable and much-loved works. Visitors will be invited to step into Blake's magical world through interactive exhibits, games, and plenty of opportunities to create their own stories and drawings, inspired by the artist’s distinctive and humorous style.

Known for his iconic illustrations, Quentin Blake has written and illustrated over 500 books. His collaborations with authors like Roald Dahl, David Walliams, and Michael Rosen have produced some of the most memorable characters in children's literature, from the gentle giant in The BFG to the mischievous Mr. Stink. With his vibrant illustrations, Blake has captivated readers of all ages, making this exhibition a must-see for fans both young and old.

But the adventure doesn’t stop in the gallery! Throughout the summer, Quentin Blake and Me will be accompanied by an exciting programme of free family activities across the Lowry building. Families can enjoy storytelling sessions with Angelica Sprocket and her never-ending pockets, try their hand at portrait sessions with local artists, or get creative in The Lookout, Lowry’s family space. The Book Nook will also give visitors the chance to explore some of Blake’s most beloved books in a relaxed setting. There will be endless opportunities for laughter, creativity, and fun surprises.

One special highlight will be a new drawing by Quentin Blake of L.S. Lowry himself, which will be featured in the exhibition, adding a unique personal touch to the display.

Quentin Blake himself is excited about the exhibition, saying: “It’s wonderful to be given such a generous and imaginative exhibition in such a special site. It was an extra pleasure to be invited to make drawings of Lowry himself. It’s also very good that visitors to the show are invited to draw and I look forward to seeing some of the results.”

Michael Simpson, Director of Visual Arts at Lowry, adds: “Lowry is always a terrific place for families, but never more so than in the holidays. We are delighted that Quentin has been so supportive and generous and, like us, he wants children and their families to come and have a great time – and do plenty of drawing and writing themselves!”

Quentin Blake and Me is part of Lowry’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, which highlight the institution’s commitment to creativity, opportunity, and making the arts accessible to all. Alongside the exhibition, Lowry will feature a dynamic programme of events, including the upcoming musical adaptation of The Enormous Crocodile, which will be performed on the Lyric stage from 9th December 2025 to 4th January 2026.

Quentin Blake and Me runs from Saturday, 19th July 2025, to Sunday, 4th January 2026, and entry is free. For more details and to find out about the full programme of anniversary events, visit thelowry.com/lowry25.
