The full cast has been announced for Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular, a large-scale production designed specifically for arenas and larger venues. This version will cater to audiences ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 people and features a UK company with over 110 performers, musicians, and crew members, with special guest appearances planned at various locations. This production is an expanded version of the concert staging that played in the West End in 2019.
Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and the original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Additional material was written by James Fenton, and the show has been adapted for the stage by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The story follows a former prisoner seeking redemption in a turbulent, revolutionary France.
For the UK tour dates, Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly will alternate in the role of Jean Valjean, while Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden will share the role of Javert. Donnelly and Jaden will also be performing in stops across Europe, including Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, and Norway.
Peter Jöback will take the stage for three performances in Sweden. Joining the cast are Bonnie Langford as Madame Thénardier, Gavin Lee as Thénardier, Jac Yarrow as Marius, Beatrice Penny-Touré as Cosette, Channah Hewitt as Fantine, James D Gish as Enjolras, and Jeremy Secomb as the Bishop of Digne.
Emily Bautista (Miss Saigon) will play Éponine for UK performances in Belfast, Glasgow, Sheffield, and Aberdeen. Casting for the Manchester and Newcastle performances will be revealed in the near future.
The ensemble will include Jonathon Bentley, Rebecca Bolton, Olivia Brereton, Amelia Broadway, Michael Burgen, Mary-Jean Caldwell, Beth Curnock, Shaun Dalton, Jonathan David Dudley, Harry Dunnett, Louis Emmanuel, Charlie Geoghegan, Harry Grant Smith, Connor Jones, Daniel Koek, Caleb Lagayan, Abel Law, Adam Robert Lewis, Georgie Lovatt, Andrew Maxwell, Jill Nalder, Zabrina Norry, Lisa Peace, Kathy Peacock, Ciaran Rodger, Jo Stephenson, Geddy Stringer, Helen Walsh, Raymond Walsh, and Owain Williams.
Young performers Daniel Adesina, Theo Hills, Felix Holt, Leo Humphreys, and Dexter Pulling will alternate as Gavroche, while Dalia Al Nagar, Amanthi Crowe, Sophia Duffie, Maisie Mac Mahon, and India Mills will share the role of Little Cosette.
The tour will kick off at Belfast’s SSE Arena on 19 September 2024 and run until 28 September 2024. Following that, it will visit Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena from 3 to 6 October, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena from 10 to 13 October, and Aberdeen’s P&J Live Arena from 17 to 20 October.
After its UK performances, the show will embark on a European tour, with stops in Luxembourg (25 to 27 October), Geneva (30 October to 3 November), Trieste (7 to 11 November), Milan (14 to 24 November), Copenhagen (27 November to 1 December), Oslo (5 to 8 December), and Zurich (19 to 22 December). The final UK performances will take place in Manchester at the AO Arena from 26 to 29 December, followed by Newcastle at the Utilita Arena from 2 to 5 January 2025. The production will then continue to Sweden from 16 January to 2 February, before moving on to Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.
Tickets for the UK and European dates are available now. The tour will be part of the 40th-anniversary celebrations for the musical in 2025, with plans to continue on to North and South America afterward.
