Liverpool’s own Jodie Comer is set to make a triumphant return to the stage with Prima Facie, the internationally acclaimed one-woman play that has earned her Olivier, Tony, Emmy, and BAFTA awards. From Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 March 2026, the play will take centre stage at the Liverpool Playhouse, bringing Comer back to her hometown for a powerful, final run of this gripping production.
A Personal and Powerful Performance
Jodie Comer first took on the role of Tessa in 2022, making her West End debut in Suzie Miller’s Prima Facie at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Her performance earned her the Olivier Award before the play transferred to Broadway, where she won the Tony Award. Now, after global success and record-breaking NT Live releases, Comer is stepping back into the role for one last tour across the UK and Ireland.
Reflecting on her return, Comer shared:
“It is a huge privilege to return to Prima Facie for one last time and take this important play on tour across the UK & Ireland. The resonance of Suzie Miller’s writing, both in London and New York, exceeded anything we could have imagined. I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to get the team back together and take the production to theatres around the country, including my hometown of Liverpool. On a personal note, I can’t think of a better finale to what has been such an incredible and deeply rewarding chapter in my life.”
The Story That Sparked a Conversation
Prima Facie follows Tessa, a brilliant young barrister who has risen from working-class roots to the top of her field. She thrives in the courtroom, navigating complex cases and dismantling arguments with precision. But when an unexpected event forces her to reckon with the law’s limitations, she is confronted with the harsh realities of power, justice, and morality.
Writer Suzie Miller expressed her excitement about the 2026 tour, saying:“This play has already achieved more than we all could have dreamed, and Jodie’s commitment to the story reaching so many new venues and communities means more people can be part of the conversation, and the solution.”
A Stellar Creative Team
Directed by Olivier Award-winning director Justin Martin, Prima Facie features an incredible creative team, including composer Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Brit Award-nominated artist Self Esteem), set and costume designer Miriam Buether, lighting designer Natasha Chivers, sound designers Max and Ben Ringham, and video by Willie Williams for Treatment Studio. Kate Godfrey will serve as the voice coach.
A Partnership for Change
The upcoming tour continues its collaboration with The Schools Consent Project and Everyone’s Invited—two organisation dedicated to educating and raising awareness about consent and sexual violence. Through these partnerships, Prima Facie extends its impact beyond the stage, driving important conversations and societal change.
