After a sensational preview run, Burlesque The Musical is officially set to light up the West End, bringing glitz, glamour, and powerhouse vocals to London’s Savoy Theatre from 10 July to 6 September 2025. As someone who saw the show five times during its Manchester run, I can confidently say: this is a musical you do not want to miss!
From Screen to Stage – and Now the West End
Based on the hit 2010 movie starring Christina Aguilera and Cher, Burlesque The Musical is a thrilling adaptation that takes the story of Ali—a small-town girl with big dreams—and amplifies it with showstopping numbers, dazzling choreography, and a cast that oozes talent. Executive producer Christina Aguilera, along with the film’s creator Steven Antin, has crafted a stage experience that is every bit as sultry and spectacular as fans could hope for.
A Five-Star Sensation in Manchester
I had the privilege of witnessing Burlesque The Musical five times during its preview run at the Manchester Opera House, and it was an unforgettable experience each time. The energy, the music, the sheer spectacle of it all—every performance left me buzzing. The show perfectly blends classic hits from the film (yes, you’ll get to hear Show Me How You Burlesque) with brand-new songs from Christina Aguilera, Sia, Diane Warren, Todrick Hall, and Jess Folley.
Jess Folley, in particular, shines as Ali. Her vocals are phenomenal, her stage presence magnetic, and she fully embodies the character’s journey from hopeful newcomer to burlesque superstar. The ensemble cast adds layers of humour, heart, and jaw-dropping choreography that had audiences on their feet night after night.
A Show That Belongs in the West End
The transition from screen to stage is no easy feat, but Burlesque The Musical manages to capture the essence of the film while giving it new life. The staging, designed by Soutra Gilmour, is a spectacle in itself, immersing the audience in the world of the Burlesque Lounge with stunning visuals and atmospheric lighting. Nick Winston’s direction and choreography keep the energy high, blending sultry, high-octane dance numbers with intimate, emotional moments that make the story even more compelling.
