Nathaniel is a serious romantic who sees love as a fine art. He’s looking for the Mona Lisa to his Da Vinci, and tonight is the night: his date with Destiny. Well, Destiny’s Child at least.
Winner of the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, Nathan Queeley-Dennis’ debut play – Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz – is a love letter to Birmingham, exploring Black masculinity through Beyoncé lyrics, techno raves and the deeply intimate relationship between a man and his barber.
Queeley-Dennis will be performing his own astonishing one-man show in the Bramall Rock Void at Leeds Playhouse from 23-25 October. His acting credits include Black Love (Kiln Theatre), Really Big and Really Loud (Paines Plough), and A Taste of Honey (National Theatre).
Director Dermot Daly, shortlisted as Best Director in The Black British Theatre Awards 2024 for Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz, said: "It's an absolute pleasure to be working with Leeds Playhouse to bring this joyful, witty play to Leeds audiences."
The Leeds-based director, actor and writer directed My Voice Was Heard But It Was Ignored, a Red Ladder and Leeds Playhouse co-production in 2022.
